Earlier a report published in the medical journal Lancet showed that the burden of mental illness will increase more rapidly in India than in China over the next 10 years. India and China account for one third of the global burden of mental illnesses – which is greater than all developed countries put together.

Unfortunately, it said that only one in 10 people with mental health disorders get treated despite the growing figures in India.

But apart from medical help, there are many tricks and tips to ease the symptoms of mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety. Here are a few tips to help you cope with any type of mental disorder, especially if you’re suffering from anxiety:

Distract yourself from worry

Try walking out of the place that you think has contributed to fear or anxiety attack. Take a walk or distract yourself by watching some funny videos that will help you calm down.

Accept that you can’t do everything

Knowing that life is full of stresses and inherently messy, accept the fact that you can’t be perfect and that bad says and setbacks will be there always.

Face it

Face your fears as avoiding them will only worsen the situations. Once you develop that habit of facing it whatever you fear, it should start to fade.

Identify your triggers

Try to find out the cause of anxiety or fears – is it your work, family, relationship or something else? Identifying causes will help you look for a pattern while easing your fears or anxieties.

Get adequate sleep

Stress and anxiety can cause sleeping problems, but getting quality sleep is vital for your overall health and wellbeing. Ensure that you sleep for 8 hours every night.

Besides the above tips, taking deep breaths (inhaling and exhaling slowly when feeling stressed), practicing yoga, meditation, listening to music, can help you deal with your day-to-day fears and anxieties.
